Grateful for Life

I’m so grateful when I get to interview interesting people in front of a LIVE audience! First it was Madeleine Albright. Then came Barbara Walters. And just this week – Melissa Rivers. She’s on her book tour for “Lies My Mother Told Me – Tall Tales From a Short Woman”, and nothing is off the table. Like her famous mother, comedian Joan Rivers, Melissa is brash and outspoken, yet warm and super friendly. She’s an Ivy League grad who is super accomplished as a TV producer and talent, a podcast host and now a NYT best-selling author. Her purpose in life is to be a mom to her college-age son, Cooper. She’s a huge advocate for suicide prevention after her father took his life when she was just 19. Melissa wants the world to know about two great resources – “Our House” and www.DDHirsch.org – where she’s an active board member. Life hasn’t been easy for this powerhouse lady, but as her famous mother taught her – you just keep going – keep pushing forward.
Life is a movie and you're the star. Give it a happy ending - Joan Rivers

Thanks so much for sending me pictures and screenshots from all across Miami-Dade County when you see me on buses, billboards and commercials! LEON Medical Centers have been serving seniors with white-glove service for decades, and now they offer their own Medicare plan – LEON Health – it’s growing dramatically, and I’m proud to be a brand ambassador for a South Florida company with such longevity in our community.

Kadie Black remembers spending Take Your Child to Work Day at Miami-Dade County’s juvenile court. She was only 6 years old, and she watched children being taken from their parents’ custody because they weren’t safe. Kadie’s mother, Joni Goodman, founded Voices for Children in 1984 with Daniella Levine Cava and a $4,000 gift. Their charge was to find Guardian Ad Litems to help give a voice to each child in foster care as they navigated the legal system.

Today, 100% of the county’s foster children are represented by a GAL, and they have that special bond with an adult voice and friend. Kadie Black now takes the helm of the charity her mother founded as the new President & CEO. A record crowd of more than 500 people came out to help pass the torch & raise more than $250,000!

Cheers to you, Kadie, and thank you for your service to speak up for our most vulnerable children.
